The restaurant is all encompassing. There is an eating and bar area with a variety of seating options; Couches, Plush chairs, Stools, etc... I've experienced the breakfast buffet, cocktails and snacks, and dinner and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is attentive and accommodating. Food has been excellent. Drinks and food are fairly priced for a fashionably designed restaurant in a chic hotel located downtown Minneapolis.
Breakfast buffet comes with all juices, coffee, and tea along with a lovely chef who makes a fantastic omelette and eggs over-easy. Of course you have all the other buffet options as well, such as: bacon, sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, fruit, yogurt, and oatmeal.
For cocktails and snacks I advise sitting in the area by the bar and ordering off the 3 for 15$ menu. My favorites are the 3 bite sized grilled cheese sliders with an espresso cup of tomato soup, 4 wings and the Milwaukee Road Bread. They make a fantastic Lemon Drop but I also enjoyed the Pink Flirtini and a Citrus Gimlet (Gimlet is not on the menu. I saw a customer tell the bar tender how to make this variation of the lime gimlet. It sounded delicious, so I jumped on the gimlet bandwagon.)
For dinner I recommend the chopped salad. * I added shrimp. Or any of the salmon and vegetable dishes. Absolutely delicious. I also had their tomato bisque soup a few evenings in a row. I couldn't help it. Yum. -

I used a Chinook Book coupon (BOGO entrees), which is what drew me to eat here before a concert at Orchestra Hall. My drink was like a blueberry lemonade cocktail with Redbull, which I really enjoyed. My friend and I ordered the chips and dip (yummy and would recommend) to quickly put out our hunger, and for our main dish we settled into a couple of salads. He had the cobb and I had the Depot's signature something (like a mixed greens salad with duck, blue cheese, apples, walnuts, and sweet potatoes). My friend said he enjoyed his salad, but didn't care for all the cheese they put on it. I liked my salad, but I didn't love it. The sweet potatoes were too small to taste, and the duck was cold and not cut up - if they changed these too things (hot and/or cubed duck, and larger sweet potatoes) I think it would have been much better. Service and the time it took for our *salads* to get to us was a bit long, especially when the restaurant was pretty empty. We also had two different servers and were confused about who to ask for things in the beginning. The patio has a nice atmosphere, but I would likely only return for drinks.

I was pleasantly surprised by Charley's, insofar as the whole "hotel restaurant" thing often bestows a get-out-of-mediocrity free card for a place. But I'm happy to say that breakfast and appetizers over several visits were overall very solid - food quality was above average, service was good enough, and in general it was a good experience while we were there.
There's one positive and one negative battling in what's left of my mind as I try to settle on a star rating. The atmosphere is excellent - between the train theme and the relaxing lounge next to the restaurant, you can have a meal in peace! On the other hand, some of the pricing is a little extreme even grading on the hotel curve, so you can certainly do better if cash if the only factor.
Being right on the border of 3 and 4 is no fun, but I'm tipping over into positive territory. I'd go back even if I wasn't staying at the hotel. -

Nice atmosphere- comfy chairs, fireplace, good music. Over the weekend we had lunch, cocktails, and breakfast. Overall it was a good experience. Their champagne list was a little disappointing. All the good options had to be ordered by the bottle, so the choices were limited if you wanted a glass. Breakfast buffet had a lot of options.

They have small plates 3 for $15 which was a pretty good deal for most items. The mac and cheese was definitely memorable! Wine was $10/glass which seemed a bit pricey. I did like you could wear what ever you wanted. We came in for a conference and it was late and most of us wore sweats/comfortable clothes. People were dressed in suits, gym clothes, casual, etc. The kitchen is open late which is a major plus.
